Garden Grids Made ...

Mike spent the day ...
ripping boards ... measuring 1ft marks ...
assembling and stapling the wood strap together ...
to make a 4x4 Square Foot Gardening grid ...

Placing the grids into the raised garden beds ...
so that I will be able to plant my seeds ...
Mike will be making enough grids to fill the boxes ...

Old Typewriter ...

 

Saw this old typewriter in an antique shop ...

in Wenatchee ...

It brought back a lot of memories ...

from working in the office of Dad's body shop ...

"Ernie's Collision Service" ...

I wonder where it ended up ... ???

Fencing Done ...

Lawrence was kind enough to help Mike ...
with the fencing wire ...
He had made this attachment for the tractor ...
to unroll the fencing material ...
It worked really well ...
was in place in no time ... !!!

This will be where the gate will be attached ...
took a some time to staple the wire onto the posts ...

 

These Raspberry plants were ready to be planted a few days ago ...

finally had some time ...

to

place them in the garden bed ...

Love my Raspberries ... !!!!

I was delighted to receive a picture of this drawing ...

from Ella ...

looks like she spent some time ...

drawing and printing the words ... "grandma" caught my eye ...

amazed how well Ella is doing with her letters ...

Corners Secured ...

Finished putting in the last of the posts ...
strip of wire mesh placed in the trench ...
my job was to back-fill the dirt ...
Mike completed tying in the corners ...
with brace wire ...
the next big job is putting the wire fencing up ...

New Glasses ...

he's getting to be such a big boy ...

Grandma and grandpa love the new frames ...

Getting There ...

Another good day ...
the trench back-filled in a couple of  hours ...
site prepared  ...
for the last two Raised Garden Bed Kits ...
Constructed and in place ... levelled ... filled with topsoil ...
It was packed with some large juicy worms ...
(maybe we should go fishing instead of working...)

I was able to transplant ...
the rhubarb plant that I received from our neighbour ...
into the new area ...
Mike also dug 3 more holes ... for us to plant some fruit trees ...
before clearing out the extra topsoil ...
and smooth out this part of the garden ...
getting ready to dig the last trench for the last two posts ...
and the garden gate ...
Then we will be putting up the game fencing wire ...
to enclose it once and for all ...
from large and small critters ...

Busy Days ...

We started putting in the fence posts along the back on Friday ...
then ran the wire mesh ... that will be buried about 2 feet ...
in the trench and fastened it to the posts ...
this Hardware Mesh will hopefully keep the gophers ...
out of the garden ...
this section of the trench was back-filled ...
ready to move to the side ...

After taking the weekend off ...
well sort of ...
when the kids came for a visit ...
we were busy with them and not able to work on the fence ...
So this was a day to try and "Get er Done" ... !!!
Trench finished being dug ...
posts put in ...
braces nailed into the posts ...
and most of the wire mesh was placed ...
We have a couple more posts to be placed on the side ...
this is next on the list ...
then pick up the game fence ...
to be installed ...

A Few More Inches ...

Nathan ... Ian ... and friends ...
used to climb the logs ...
Craig has been eyeing them up ...
wanting to try it ...
daddy gave him a boost ... look at that happy face ...
James wanted a turn as well ...
I think the boys need to grow a few more inches ...

After the kids went our for their last run ...
with their dirt-bikes ...
It was time to load them onto the truck ...
Ella needed a project to work on ...
so grandpa brought out a few pieces of wood ...
some masking and electrical tape ...
for her to play with  ...
the boys decided they wanted in on the action ...
now all of them with wood ... a saw to cut them and tape ...
masterpieces created ...
and just in time to be heading out for home ... !!!
We had a great visit ... short but sweet ... !!!

New Set Of Wheels ...

A trip to BC ... was exciting ... for Craig ...
to get his new dirt-bike ...
His other bike now belongs to James ... and Ella has the quad ...
This was a new experience for Craig ...
as it has a 65 cc 2-stroke engine ...
this meant learning to use the clutch to shift gears ...
Amazing how quickly the children learn ...
He was on his way in no time at all ...!!!
All of us going for a ride ...
and even grandma had to try out all the motorized toys ...
What a blast ... !!!

 

After dinner and while I was cleaning up the kitchen ...

the game was "on" ...

downstairs playing Foosball ...

The boys playing against grandpa ...

Ella in charge of the balls and score ...

the kids hung a whoopin on grandpa ... !!!

Lots of laughs and giggles ... 

could be heard ...

!!!

Well it was my kick at the can ...

so to speak ...

at getting practise with using the backhoe ...

to give Mike a break too ... !!!

It took a bit of time ...

to get the feel of the controls again ...

a delicate touch is needed ...

I managed to pull it together and get the job done ... !!!

Don't you just love the country work attire ... ???

Old fence gone ... helping to pull out the posts ...with the tractor ...

Mike giving me the signal to raise the bucket ...

Then Mike cleared and levelled the area ...

to start digging the trench ... around the whole area ...

to put in the hardware cloth  ...

to try and keep the gophers out of the new garden ...

Will be putting in longer fence posts ...

 attach the game fence wire ...

to keep the deer and elk ...

from eating the fresh greens that will be growing ...

in the garden ...

Another Good Day ...

 

We had another busy day ...

out working on the garden site ...

Mike and I decided to use bricks that we had stored ...

for one of those ...

maybe we should keep these just in case we need them for a project ...

This area was prepared for the new home ...

for several ...

Raspberry Bushes ...

Need Warmer Weather ...

Love my little indoor gardens ...

I started these plants earlier ...
hoping to get them planted outside ...
but with this cold weather ...
it was not possible ...
so we are eating these fresh greens ...
and have started a new batch of seeds for planting outside ...
with this growing system ...
it won't take long ... !!!

Sunday Morning Surprise ...

Was shocked to see the ground and trees covered in snow ...
when I awoke yesterday morning ...
but delighted as it sure made a beautiful picture ...

The sun was just starting to peak thru the clouds ...
the snow would soon disappear ...

Just something about snow and baking ... !!!
Had an urge to make some cookies ...
while waiting for the snow to melt ...
before heading outside in the afternoon ...

Singing Again ...

Once again it was time to travel for the International Choral Festival ...
this year it was held in ...
Wenatchee, WA

This was the house that a few of us rented for the weekend ...

Meeting at the High School for lunch before the afternoon rehearsals ...
A chorus of "Gospodi Pomilui was sung by our choir ...
 unbeknownst  by the 5 other choirs sitting eating their lunch ...
It was well received ... !!!

Six choirs performed their pieces of music ...
ending the evening with ...
a mass choir singing 3 songs ...
one choir on stage ...
the rest of us surrounding the audience ...
What a beautiful sound ... !!!!

 

We all went to the Wenatchee Centre ...

for an "After-Glow" party ...

with a delightful buffet dinner ...

and music to kick up our heels ...

We had a wonderful time visiting with fellow choir members ... !!!

It was another successful festival ... 

and look forward to next year's ICF ...

in Cranbrook, BC 

Work In Progress ...

So excited to get started on our ...
raised garden frames ...
for the new garden ...
so easy to install ...

Mike had cleared the area last fall ...
of the old garden ... piled up the soil ... covered over winter ...
Mike then levelled the the whole area ...
as we live on a sidehill ...
then laid out the forms ... and started putting them together ...

 

The bottom of the frames were covered ...

in lawn fabric and hardware cloth (wire mesh) ...

to keep out the weeds and rodents ...

Grateful for our trusty tractor ...

scooping and dumping the prepared soil ...

into all the boxes ...

We are waiting for our other kit to be delivered ...

as we figured we had enough room for it ...

Once the weather has warmed up ...

these raised garden beds ...

are ready to be planted ... !!!
