End of My Fall Vegetables ...

Went out to the garden ...

to start cleaning up a bit ... digging up the rest of the carrots ...

and found a whole section of potatoes that I had missed ...

It was perfect as Oma and Kurt were coming out for dinner ...

and Oma loves fresh garden potatoes ... !!!

Since I dug up the horseradish root ...

I decided to make some Creamy Horseradish  ...

It was definitely a sinus opening process ...

very potent vapours ...

but absolutely delicious ... !!!

The other roots are stored in sand in a dry cool place ... !!

It was time to process the tomatillos ...

after chopping the onions, garlic, peppers, tomatillos ...

placing them into a pot ... cooked down ... poured into jars ...

and then placed in the canner to process ...

always filling a dish with some salsa in it ...

to dip my tortilla chips ... and taste ...

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Day of Harvest ...

It was the perfect afternoon to take down the frost coverings on the raised beds ...
and dig up potatoes, carrots, beets, and onions ...
the tomatoes ... eggplants were also picked ...
kale ... kohlrabi ... swiss chard ... horseradish and parsley were left ...
 to be dealt with at a later time ...
then the covers and hoops were taken down ...
set aside to be stored until the spring ...

With the weather changing quickly here ...

my orchard neighbour was concerned about the frost ...

she called to see if I wanted to pick some apples ...

of course I jumped at the chance ...

Picked enough for eating ... 

baking and canning a batch of applesauce ...

Need One More Day ...

 

It was another great day ... getting firewood ...

we cut, split and stacked three truckloads today ...

just a little short to complete the final row ...

Should be able to get it done with one more day ... !!!

It was a beautiful day to go for a hike up to mom & dads favourite spot ...
love the fall colours ...
and then cut down a few little trees ...
for mom to take back to her place and decorate her home ...

Grizzly Close To Home ...

These pictures were sent from our neighbour ...
they had too put down their old horse ...
and had put her body up the bush road about 400 yards away from their home ...
they have put their perished animal there ...
so that they might "disappear into nature" ... and feed the local scavengers ...
They had set up their game camera nearby to get some photos ...
they captured many pictures of the wildlife ...
which included ravens, magpies, vultures, coyotes and a bear ...
They had originally thought it was a huge black bear ...
but after viewing the photos ...
it shows that it is a large, dark grizzly bear ...
they captured many photos of him burying the carcass ...
protecting it ... leaving it ... only to return and have to bury it again ...
as the ravens and other animals would dig it up ...
Quite a sight to witness ... via a game camera ...
Thinking I would love to get one myself ... there are times I would like to set one up ...
when the animals are in the field ...

Firewood Time ...

Started to drop the trees by the shop ...
 after a portion of it had broken off during a windstorm ...
Both of us with our new hard hats ...
Once the tree was down ... we discovered this fungus growing on the bark ...

We needed to use the tirfor (winch) to pull down the trees ...
 away for the shop and hydro lines ...

 

We bucked up all the trees then hit the pile of logs ...
split and stacked them into the woodshed ... a good days work ....

After taking a day off, for Thanksgiving ...
we took the day to get a few more loads of firewood ...
3 tractor buckets and 2 pickup truck loads ...
to complete one row of long pieces of logs ...
and only have a little more of the small logs to cut and split ...
 to complete 4 rows ... !

So happy to have turkey leftovers for dinner ... !!!

A beautiful sunny Thanksgiving day ... 

spent a few hours in the kitchen ...

then headed outside to enjoy the day ...

We had a wonderful time with mom ... and our neighbours Don & Bonnie ...

as we sat around the table ... visiting ... grateful for the abundance in our lives ...

along with sharing a delicious turkey dinner ...

and 

Pumpkin Pie for dessert ... !!!

On The Waterfront ...

We had a great time walking along the waterfront ...
and watching the Paddle Boats on the MIssissippi River ...
the children making wishes ...
as they tossed pennies into the fountain ...

Beautiful flowers and old buildings all around us ...

It was wonderful to enjoy some of the sights ...

on our last day here in LaCrosse, Wisconsin ...

The Old Candy Store ...

The day after the wedding ... we decided to take the children for a walk ...
and see some of the sights ...
the first place the kids saw ... was the old fashioned Candy Store ...
They were all so amazed with the selection ...
decision ... decision ...
They each chose a huge Lollipop ... !!!

Strolling up and down the streets ... checking out some of the stores ...

We then headed to the waterfront park along the Mississippi River ...
to let the kids run around and have some fun ...
