A Nice Surprise ...

Nathan decided to visit us ...

on his way to go hunting with his friends on Sunday ...

He spent some time in the morning here ...

sighting in his scope out in the field ...

then riding around on the quad ... playing ...

Nathan went visiting one of his buddies ...

in the afternoon ...

then came into town to have dinner ...

with Oma and I ...

We had a lovely time ... chatting ... and eating a delicious meal ... !!!

First Batch Done ...

Busy morning canning the first batch of ripe tomatoes ...

there will be a few more to come ...

in the next little while ...

 will be a batch of Salsa ... !!!

It was time to bring in the ripe tomatoes from the garden ...

Grateful that they survived the frost earlier in the month ... and were able to ripen on the vines ...

Two boxes ... 

one with ready to eat and process tomatoes ... 

and one box with a few that still need a little more ripening ...

mmmmmmm

It also took a bit on time ...

 to pick all the plums from the tree ...

it amazed me at how well they were hidden on the branches ...

with the leaves covering them ...

Not bad for the first year of this tree producing fruit ....!!!

There were a few Tomatillos ready to picked as well ...

need a few more to be able to make salsa ...

Still delighted to have a few strawberries in the garden ... !!!

It was a busy day with canning and baking on Sunday ...

we had been expecting this load of logs the whole day ...

finally at 9:00 at night it arrived ...

It amazed us at how well he could manoeuvre in the dark ...

with only a few lights ...

to unload all the logs ... 

We decided to get a load of logs for firewood ...

just as backup to have on hand ...

if we encounter a harsh winter season ...

we do not have far to go ... !!!

Making Pickles ...

Tackling the job of making pickled beets today ...

gathering all the ingredients together ...

Slicing the onions and beets ...

and cooking up the brine mixture with the spices ...

Placing the sliced fresh ginger and a sprig of Rosemary into the jars ...

before adding the beet and onion mixture ...

pouring the in the brine ...

sealing the jars ...

then processing them in a water bath ...

I decided to make a Fresh Peach Crisp ...

since I still had a few fresh peaches left ...

 it was the perfect time ...

 while the beets were processing ... !!!

A beautiful day to spend it in the garden ...

digging up the potatoes and pulling up the beets ...

Still waiting a few more days before picking the tomatoes ...

letting them ripen on the vine ...

Sprawled the potatoes on the ground to dry ...

ended up with close to 30 lbs ... not bad for my little patch ...

the neighbours dog ... Kita usually visits me in the garden ...

as I was picking up the potatoes and brushing them off ...

she decided to play with them  ... I stopped her from gnawing at them ...

The beets will be pickled in the morning ... !!!

We have been getting a lot of end of summer jobs done ...

Covering up the travel trailer ... storing the chassis of the VW ...

and closing down the pool ...

This spider was not happy when I started to drain the water at the pool ...

it was frantically making a web ...

It was a very good productive day ... !!!!

Ready For Picking ...

Hard to believe that the strawberry plants are still producing fruit ...

still getting a few every day ...

A few more days of sunshine ...

and the plums should be ripened enough to pick ...

I have been snitching a few off and enjoying their sweetness ...

mmmmmmmmm

Surprised at the amount of apples that this tree has produced ...

with it only being its second year here in my garden ...

They were definitely ripe for the picking ...

and tasty ... !!!

And ... We're Done ...

We finished with cutting ... splitting ... and stacking wood ...

this morning ...

It is the first time that the woodshed has been filled before the end of September ...

Another big job completed ...

plenty of wood to keep us warm for the colder months ahead ... !!!

Little Loaf Pan ...

Found the cutest pan for baking 8 little loaves ...

and with an abundant amount of Zucchini ... 

it was the perfect time to whip up a batch and try out the new pan ...

I was delighted to see the results ... 

There was enough batter to make the 8 little loaves  ...

plus one in my other mini single loaf pan ...

these little Zucchini Loaves are perfect for me ... 

and ... to share with others ... !!!

Peaches ...

It took two days to process 40 lbs of peaches ...
but it was so worth the work ...
lots of summer treats to enjoy ...
during the next few months of cooler weather ...
Not sure how many jars of peaches will be left ...
due to the increase of orders ...
from family members ...

They are really yummy ... !!!

It was another beautiful sunny day ...

we decided to go and cut up the logs that we had dragged into the field ... 

once we finished with this load ... we headed up the hill ...

Cutting up a couple loads of pine ...

wider pieces were cut short and split ... (too heavy to keep them long)

and the rest were cut in longer lengths ... 

We are getting close to filling the woodshed up ...

probably one more good day of cutting ...

and splitting ...

I think should do it ... !!!!

An Easy Delicious Meal ...

I have had this recipe in kitchen for quite some time ...

and since I had a few extra zucchinis ...

thought I would try it out ...

Oh my goodness ... it was so easy and so delicious ... !!!

I will definitely make this meal again ... !!!

Enjoy the recipe ... 

Teriyaki Salmon with Zucchini

Ingredients

•  Teriyaki sauce

•  2 (6-ounce) salmon fillets

•  Sesame seeds

•  2 small zucchini, thinly sliced

•  4 scallions, chopped

•  Oil  (Canola, vegetable, coconut butter)

Directions

Combine 5 tablespoons teriyaki sauce and fish in a zip-top plastic bag. Seal and marinate 20 minutes.

Toast sesame seeds in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, and set aside.

Drain fish, discarding marinade. Add fish to skillet, and cook 5 minutes. Turn and cook for 5 more minutes over medium-low heat. Remove from skillet, and keep warm.

Add the zucchini, scallions, and 2 teaspoons oil to skillet. Saute 4 minutes, or until lightly browned. Stir in 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, and serve with salmon.

                                                                                                           

Warm The House ...

A cold ... frosty night ...

the house needed to be warmed up ...

best way to give it some heat .... was to bake some cookies ... 

I then decided to make a pot of soup to warm our bellies for lunch ...

 a delicious ... hearty ... 

9 Bean Vegetable Soup ...

served with Asiago Cheese and garnished with parsley ....

mmmmmmm 

After lunch I went out to salvage what I could from the garden ...

the frost hit us all hard up here ...

Thank goodness I covered up my tomatoes ... green peppers and Eggplant ...

only two tomato plants were affected from another area in a raised bed ...

all the others survived ...

I picked a few of the fallen and ripe tomatoes ... and brought them in the house ... 

Covered up the plants again as the forecast ...

was calling for more frost again ...

Keeping my fingers crossed ... 

Nicer ... warmer weather is on the way ... !!!
