Day 7 of Snow ...

February 10, 2017
So grateful to see the sunshine and blue skies ...
there was a skiff of snow on the deck this morning ...
After breakfast we cleared off the side deck ... as it was too much to take care of yesterday ...
The only issue was that it was warming up ...
and therefore the snow was heavier ... to toss over the railing ... for Mike to haul away ...
I was so happy to see that last shovel full of snow ...
to be thrown over the railing for this day ...
It was so beautiful ... and the warmth from the sun felt good ...
It's still hard to believe how much snow had fallen ... in a week ...
The garden is buried ... the potato boxes disappeared under the snow ...
The snow is high up on the fence ...
I think it would be difficult to open up the gate right now ...
We'll have to wait until the snow melts ...

These pictures were taken of Joseph Creek Village ...
Oma sent them out to all of our family in Europe as well ... they were surprised at how much snow there was ...
The residents were held captive ... no way to get out ...
It was difficult to try and go for a walk with the sidewalks pretty well buried ...
There was so much snow ...
that Joseph Creek and Cranbrook ...
were featured on the Global News Calgary station ... on the evening news ...
Mike and I managed to make our way into town ...
to enjoy a lovely evening with Oma ... Joe ... Mike and Shauna ...
at the Valentine's Day Buffet ...

Day 6 of Snow ...

February 9, 2017
We couldn't believe the amount of snow that had fallen overnight ... again ... !!!
After breakfast we made our way outside ...
to start with this days activities ... clearing snow ...
The snow kept falling as we were shovelling ...
I had the first round  pushed into a pile ...
at the end of the deck ...
When Mike had finished hauling the first pile away ...
I had started to shovel off the next round of snow on the deck ...
The Jeep is completely covered with snow ... it won't be going anywhere ...
for quite awhile ...
The next job to be done was helping Mike clear snow ... down to the boiler ...
and then off the shelters ...
The snow on the shop roof ... was almost up to the top of the hydro service connection ...
I was concerned about the amount of snow on the grandchildren's fort ...
I hope that when they built it ... it would be strong enough for this weight ...
The snow at the barbwire fence ...
by the field ...
was up to the second string ...
It's still snowing ...
guess the deck should be checked ...
to see if it needs to be cleared again ...

Day 4 of Snow ...

February 7, 2017
Well ... another day with snowfall thru the night ... Today we are going to tackle the side and front deck ... There was an extreme amount of snow ... It was going to take me and Mike ... a few hours ... to toss this snow ... over the railing for Mike to haul away ... It was nice to see the sunshine and blue sky ... makes it all worth while to be outdoors ...
Still clearing the snow ...
Next on the agenda ... was trying to find the front stairs ...
they were off the deck somewhere ...
I started from down at the driveway ... working my up the stairs ...
the snow on the landing was as high up on my hip ...
Digging my way thru ... I finally found the bottom step ... up to the deck ...
Unbelievable ... !!!
Wow ...  We never get tired of looking ... at this view ...

Day 3 of Snow ...

February 6, 2017
Oh my ... this was unbelievable ... so much snow fell thru the night ...
this is Day 3 ... of fallen snow ... we could hardly get out the back door ...
It feels like we are living like the movie "Groundhog Day" ...
we wake up ... have breakfast ... clear snow all day ... have dinner ... then fall into bed ...
What will tomorrow bring ... ???

Mike digging his way out to stoke the boiler ...
after breakfast ... Mike started plowing ...
I had started to clear the deck ... and pile it off the edge ...
for Mike to haul away ... it's just too much snow to pile it by the house ...

It was a beautiful site though ... love the look of the untouched snow ...
Our driveway was closing in on us ...
Mike was having difficulty pushing all this snow ...
Grateful for our neighbour Don ...
to come and use the snowblower on his tractor ...
to open up some more room ...
just in case we get another dump of snow ...

Snow Is Falling ...

February 3, 2017
We had spent the day clearing snow ...
towards the evening it started to snow again ...
Couldn't believe how much had fallen already ...
wondering how much was going to accumulate thru the night ...
I was looking out the window upstairs ...
and decided to take a few pictures of the snow and Mike stoking the boiler ...

February 4, 2017

Well ... as you can see we woke up to a huge amount of snow ...
we headed outside after a hardy breakfast ...
figured we needed it to give us lots of energy ... for clearing the snow ...
As Mike starts to plow the area ...
my jobs are to clean the snow off the car and truck ... then move them to the cleared area ...
for Mike to continue plowing ...
Then I shovel the snow off the decks ... the back deck is pushed to the edge of the deck ...
then Mike hauls bucketfuls away ...
We do not want to have it close to the house ... as it causes issues when the weather warms up ...
Next the side and front decks are cleared ...
the snow is tossed over the railings onto the driveway ...
as well as the snow from the stairs ... landing and stairs to the driveway ...
for Mike to plow away from the house ...

It was another busy day in the snow ...
we sure are getting a good workout these days ...

Snow Removal Day ...

December 5, 2016
So much snow had fallen ... it was going to be a busy day ...
clearing a path to walk around and plowing the snow in the driveway ...
Mike was busy clearing the snow ... on the roads ... with the tractor ...
while I was clearing the snow off the decks ...
I was happy to find the hot tub ...
as I was sure we were going to need it after we were done today ...
The decks and stairs were all shovelled ...
Mike was still out plowing ... even as darkness came upon us ...
Love the soft lighting on the house ...
Mike had finished up with the tractor ...
and before we went in for dinner ... we both slipped into the hot tub ...
oh my goodness ... did we need this treatment ...
It felt good ... easing the aches in our muscles ...
After our soaking in the hot water ... we made our way into the house ...
to enjoy sitting down ... having dinner ... then relaxing ...
We were happy to have all the snow cleared for now ...
the weather forecast is calling for more snow ...

Switching Car Body ...

November 23, 2016

Mike had been talking to some of the guys in town ...
They all think the value would be more ... and he should still restore the original body on the VW ... I totally agree ...
Sooooo ... Mike moved the gold body out with the quad ...
taking it back up to the storage site ...
I came up with the tractor ... Mike attached the straps around the body ...
then I proceeded to lift it up off the trailer ...
and Mike helped with walking it over to set it on the ground ...
We then went to where the original body was ...
Again Mike attached the straps to lift it off this trailer ...
It was then lifted and walked over to the little trailer ...
I then started to lower it onto to the trailer ... very carefully ... stopping when Mike asked me to ...
so that he could make sure it would be set down where it needed to be ...

Once the blue VW body was on the trailer ...
we picked up the gold VW and moved it over to be set on the trailer ...

Mike then hooked up the quad to the little trailer ...
and brought it down to the shop ...

Upon visual inspection ... this one is going to require ...
a lot more work ... !!!

Still Cleaning UP The Yard ...

March 31, 2016
Finally after quite a few years of the satellite dish not functioning ...
it was going to be removed ad hauled away ...
It took the tractor to lift out the pole that was covered in concrete ...
Loading up the dish on the trailer ...
to haul it to the landfill site to be disposed ...
James and Ella were playing at the fort ...
while the guys were working ...
We later went out into the field to have lunch ...
The kids made a small campfire by the large pile of ashes from the bonfire ...
Oma and Joe came for a visit later in the afternoon ...
it was a good time to take a break ...
Grandpa took the kids to the dump ...
and Grandpa had strict instructions not to stop at the store ...
to buy anything to eat before dinner ...
The kids brought home a few treasures from the dump ...
An umbrella ... pruning shears ... Dolphin picture ...
and a quad ...
Someone had left two quads there that were not working ...
and they brought one of them home ...
The kids were so excited with their treasures ... !!!
Grandpa got scooped when they got back home ...
because he had bought himself a drink ... and I knew he did not have one when he left ...
the kids and Grandpa said they did not get anything to eat ...
hmmmmm ... I had a puzzled look on my face ...
as I could see the kids chewing on something ...
The kids and Grandpa figured that chewing bubble ...
was not eating ...
and apparently this view was verified by the salesperson at the store ...
They all thought they were pretty sneaky ...
with this one ...
We had a good laugh ... and grateful that they hadn't eaten ...
as dinner was ready ...
We were invited to go to the movies with my friend Tammy ...
and her grandchildren ...
so after dinner we headed into town to go to see Zootopia ...
It was a really cute movie ...
When we arrived home ...
the kids noticed that the other quad appeared to have been picked up and brought home ...
Nathan and grandpa went back to the dump ...
while we were at the movies ...
I wonder what the gang is going to be doing the next day ... ???

Pulling Out The Trees ...

March 29, 2016

The kids love riding in the tractor ...
Grandpa is very careful when they are in the bucket ...
he was lifting them up into the air and lowering them back down ...
It's like being at the carnival ...
Mike has wanted to clear the trees from the back field ...
that had grown up into that area the last few years ...
Craig climbed up the trees to attach the choker ...
for Grandpa to pull them out by the roots ...
James and I ended up helping out as well ...
I would attach the choker around the stumps ...
then James hauled them away with the quad ...
taking them to the new slash pile for Nathan to limb ...
then toss onto the bonfire ...
It's great to finally get a few of these jobs done ... !!!

Bonfire Day ...

March 29, 2016
It was the perfect day to burn the slash pile ...
the kids were digging up gopher holes while waiting for Grandpa ...
to finish making a fire break ...
The boys and Grandpa lit the match to get this fire going ...
James and Ella taking a break from riding their quads ...
watching the fire burn ...
Nathan was busy cutting the limbs off the trees ...
so they could be thrown on the pile ...
The kids had a blast with Grandpa giving them a ride in the tractor ...
Mike was determined to finally get this old stump to the fire ...
Mike put a chain around it and started pulling it out of the bush ...
He then pushed it onto the road ... and Craig decided to stand on top of it before Grandpa ...
latched onto it ...

The stump was dragged out into the field ...

and push up onto the burn pile ...

It is going to take days for that huge stump to burn down into ashes ...

Working Outside ...

February 20, 2016
We had full intentions on going for another load of logs ...
but when we started to drive along the logging road ... we were in mud and huge puddles ...
half way up the tires ...
It took us travelling on the road awhile to find a place to turn around ...
and head back for home ...
It will be a few more weeks before we can head out again ...
once the frost is out and the roads dry up ...
Mike spent the rest of the afternoon ...
giving the truck and trailer a good wash ... !!!

February 21, 2016
Since we were unable to get more wood ...
we decided to move the pile of logs from in front of the shop ...
to the area where the rest of the logs were piled up ...
First of all ... Mike had to plough the snow off the roadway ...
in order for us to drive up ...
Thank goodness for the tractor to load the wood ... into the back of the truck ...
with the last one topping the load which was 24" (61 cm) in diameter ...
We then rolled it into a pile and its new resting place ...
for at least a year to dry ...
until it can be split and stacked ...
It felt great to be outside working ...
the sun did make and appearance for a little while ...
later in the afternoon ...
