BBQ & Birthday Cake ...

 

Master Chefs ... Ian and Greg ...
cooked up hot dogs and burgers for the crowd ...
a great feast including salads ... veggie and fruit trays ... chips ...
then it was time for dessert ...

 

Daigens' Angry Bird Cake ...

 

He was excited to see his cake ...
with the sparklers ...
it was a delicious chocolate cake ....
the kids were lining up to get a piece ...
mmmmmmmmmmm

 

It was difficult to get a decent picture with our kids ...

one of them was always goofing off ...

(I wonder which son it was ... ???)

Anyway ... he always makes it fun ... !!!

It was great for all us to be together for Daigens' birthday ... !!!

Finally the Birthday Boy arrives ...
Daigen was so excited to see ...
all the balloons and guests ...
here for his party ...

 

Of course ...
what is a birthday party without ...
BUBBLES ...
the kids had a blast running around popping them ...
playing on the trampoline ...
the play centre ...
baseball and soccer ...

 

The bouncy Castle was a big hit as well ...

it was great to see all the children ... and the cousins ...

playing together ... !!!

HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY DAIGEN ... !!!

Birthday Preparations ...

 

Daddy, Grandpa and Uncle Greg ...
took Daigen out to McDonalds for breakfast ...
so that the preparations for his party ...
could be done without him knowing ...
they kept him away for a few hours ...

 

This years theme was Angry Birds ...

balloons, table coverings, cups, plates ...

and even the "Goodie Bags" ...

for the kids all had special Angry Birds items in them ...

This piñata ... full of candy and little trinkets ...

was hung in a tree ...

 for the children to break it open ... !!!

(usually its his blanket that he uses)
and presented it to him the day they arrived ...

These birds were sighted at Idlewild Park ...

Burk took this pictures and sent them to me ...

we were viewing the photo of my Warbler from the other day ...

and he had mentioned that he had taken some photos ...

of a yellow bird ... and a blackbird ... known as ..
  Brewers Blackbird

Yellow-headed Blackbird: (Male)Medium-sized blackbird with black body, bright yellow hood and breast and has distinct white wing patches. Bill, legs and feet are black. 

Female is of light brown colouring ...

Yellow-headed Blackbird: Breeds from central British Columbia, northern Alberta, and Wisconsin south to southern California, northern New Mexico, and Illinois. They spend winters in southern U.S. and northern Mexico.  

Their nests can be found in freshwater marshes.  Although when they are migrating and in the winter they prefers open, cultivated lands, fields, and pastures.

It was wonderful to finally have a beautiful sunny day here ...

is in full bloom ...
and the fragrance is unbelievable ...


The bees were busy ...
gathering nectar ...
it was wonderful to see all the activity ...
in the blossoms ...

A Beautiful Sight ...

 

I was out on the deck this morning ....
and this White-Tailed Deer ...
was in the driveway ...
she caught sight of me ...
and started stomping her legs ...
I had seen movement in the bush ...
figured with the way she was behaving ...
there must be a fawn nearby ...

 

I was very still ...
standing on the deck with my camera ...
waiting for the little one to appear ...

 

I was hoping to get a few more snapshots ...

but momma felt it was time to leave ...

and the little fawn ...

 scurried back into the bush ...

following her to safety ...

Grateful to have had this opportunity to see them both ...

Cleaning Up ...

 

Finally was clear enough to start working on the slash pile ...

limbing the branches ...

I was watching the sky behind me ...

as the clouds were moving in ...

I managed to clear about 12 trees ...

and gather and pile up the branches ...

before it started to rain again ...

still have about 8 trees left to do ...

but they'll have to wait for another day ...

Welcome Summer ... !!!

Wobbly Warbler ...

 

This little bird ... was in shock ...
after hitting the window of the sliding class door ...
I kept a close eye on it ...
hoped it would be okay ...

This species is of the Warbler family ...
a "Yellow-rumped Warbler"
It is seen in spruce forests, and on coasts during migration ..
Western birds have yellow throats ...
Eastern birds have white throats ...
they nest in conifers ...

 

It didn't take very long for this Warbler ...

to regain its senses ...

flew up to the chair ...

then within a few moments ...

had flown back into the trees ...

Hope I get a chance to see him again ...

When I went down the road ...

to take the picture of the Turtle Crossing Sign ...

I drove on the off road to turn around ...

and there in the middle of the road ...

was this BIG BLACK BEAR ...

he was frightened by the vehicle ...

and turned and hid in the trees ...

I was grateful to have had my camera to capture this picture ...

This bear was later spotted crossing the road onto our place ...

Out of courtesy ... we always inform our neighbours ...

when we spot the bears travelling thru our area ...

A Day Of Golf ...

We were invited to the Annual ANG Golf Tournament ...
being held at the St. Eugene Mission Casino & Golf Resort ...
all retirees are invited to attend ...
for a fun day of golfing and socializing ...

 

We all met at the Pro Shop ...
to get our instructions ...
and our personalized golf carts ...
we also were cheered on by the local varmints ...

 

After playing 18 holes of golf ...

we all met at the 19th Hole Bar & Grill ...

at the club house ...

"The unique Barn Clubhouse at St. Eugene ...

 is one of the original landmarks ...

in the Kootenays ...

and was one of the buildings in use ...

when the Mission operated ...

as a Residential school ..."

We had a wonderful time socializing ...

telling stories ... reminiscing ... laughter ...

in the one photo are two retirees ...

Tony and Joe ...

Mike was hired on by Joe in 1985 to begin his career ...

with Alberta Natural Gas ...

which is now ...

TransCanada Pipeline ...

We also were treated to a wonderful buffet dinner ...

which was enjoyed by all ...

Look forward to the next time we will all be together again ...

the other day ... driving up the road ...

I spotted this painted turtle ...

in the middle of the road ...

I stopped to take a few pictures ...

and talk to her ... 

she has picked the worst place to lay her eggs ...

I stayed until she had crossed the road safely ...

Everyone that lives on this road ...

drives carefully at this time of year ... !!!

and all day ...

in the late afternoon it even hailed ...

perfect day to get things accomplished indoors ...

as well as taking time to sit down, relax, and read ...

An evening get together to celebrate another year of singing ...
Everyone bringing their best Potluck dishes of food ...

 Cards and gifts were presented to both Chuck and Tim ...
thank you Chuck for the time you devote to this choir ...
and saying goodbye to Tim ...
as he leaves the choir after 5 yrs of being our accompaniment ...
to peruse his career of music in Germany ...
He will be missed ...
he's one great piano player ...

 

After finishing our feast ... visiting ... and chatting ...

we broke out into song ...

singing until it was time to say goodbye ...

until we meet again in September ...
