Truck Box Addition ...

January 14, 2017
Mike finally had some time to go to the shop ...
and work on installing his new BedXtender for the truck ...
He took out all the parts out of the box and set them out on the bench ...
Then reading the instructions on the procedure for installing the rack ...
He needed to take the tail lights off to install the brackets ...
It took a bit of work measuring ... taking the template to mark the drill holes ...
for the bracket ...
Once the brackets were installed and the tail lights put back together ...
Mike then started to assemble the rack bars ...
then attached it to the brackets ...
Mike completed the installation ...
and was delighted to have it done ...
Now items will no longer slide to the front of the box ...
or fall out of the truck with the tailgate down ...

More Snow ...

January 9, 2017

What a surprise when we awoke this morning ...
approximately another foot of snow ...
It had warmed up a bit ... and the snow was heavier ...
so we needed to get to work ...
We spent the whole day clearing the decks ...
and the driveway ...

January 10, 2017

It was beautiful day ... perfect for setting up our new ...
Wireless Wind Speed Weather Station ...
It is so nice to see the monitor in the house ... giving us the info for the day ...
The moon was still high in the sky this morning ...
it's not very often I see the moon at this time of the day ...

New Home for VW ...

November 28, 2016

The sun was shining and no rain in the forecast ...
we decided to finish erecting the car shelter ...
All the hardware needed for the next step ...
was laid out ...
Mike pounded in the stakes to hold the frame down ...
The end and front pieces were attached first ...

The main cover was unrolled flat on the ground ...
2 bars were put thru the pouches ... and then 2 ropes were attached ...
The ropes were flung over the frame ... and Mike an I pulled on the ropes ...
to raise the tarp over the frame ...
Once that part was done ... we move inside to finish tying it down ...

The bars were put thru the channels ... brackets attached ...
then the ends were tightened ... using the rachets ... pulling the straps ...
The shelter was now ready ...
for the VW and parts to be put inside ...

It took us a couple hours to complete this project today ...

August 10, 2016
Mike was busy in the shop ...
the motor reassembly now in progress ...
pedals and carburetor cleaned and painted ...
and new brake lines installed ...
Continuing the assembly of the engine ...
Parts from Brazil do not fit perfectly ...
so adjustments took a bit of time ...
The new flywheel was installed ...
as well as the clutch and pressure plate on the motor ...
The motor was installed back on the pan (chassis) ...
plus the brakes were adjusted ...
and ready for wheels ...
Won't be long now before the tires will be put on ...
and it will be ready to roll out ...
in order for Mike to work on the car body ...

Kendall's Car ...

May - June 2016
Ian decided it was time to work on Kendall's car ...
They were given this 1932 Ford Model B Mustang ...
from Kendall's dad ...
which originally belonged to Barry's grandfather ...
It was going to be a big project ... but Ian was excited to get it done ...
In May Ian and his family also received their Green Cards ...
these give them permission to stay in the United States as long as they want to ...
no more worrying about getting Visa's to work in the USA ...
Ian is very talented in the fabrication of parts ...
He ended up making custom bent spindles ...
and the rear end mounted with trailing arms ...
When Ian had sent these pictures ...
this is what he had written ... and it touched my heart ...
"Thought you would like to see Opa's hammer ...
I've been using to build the car as well as his plaque always looking over the build."
On June 11 ... Ian sent these pictures ...
"Finally mounted the rad, utilized some new old stock clips from Ernie's Auto body. Also made a mount for the power rack and pinion."
On June 21 ...
Ian had made custom shock mounts ...
We are so excited for Ian & Kendall ...
can't wait to see it done ...
Of course it still has a long way to go ...
I do believe he will get the 32 done before Mike finishes the VW ...
they both love tinkering with cars ...

So Much Accomplished ...

April 6, 2016
We left for a whirlwind trip to Calgary and back on the 5th ...
We spent the day taking out the old washer and dryer ...
took it to the neighbours as they bought them for their son ...
Mike then installed the new washer and dryer ...
which took him longer than he thought it would ... but well worth it ...
I love them ... !!! What a difference from the old standards ...
We had also gotten a new freezer as the old one with lots of food in it ...
had stopped working ...

April 7, 2016
It was another busy day ...
my garden was on the agenda today ...
getting the raised beds topped up with ...
horse manure ... vermiculite and peat moss mix ...
Shovelling a wheel barrow full into each of the beds ...
then tilling it in with my little cultivator ...
I was thrill when Mike made this watering system for my potato boxes ...
a piece of rebar ... with a soaker hose attached ...
placing it in the centre of the box ...
to keep the soil moistened ...

I had filled the first part of the potato boxes with the mix of soil ...
then planted Caribe potatoes in one of the boxes ...
(which are an early season variety)
and Russet potatoes ...
(fall harvest potatoes)
in the other ...

I also planted my Walla Walla onions ... !!!

It's hard to believe that I am able to work in the garden ...
this early in the season ...

Out To The Shop ...

March 12, 2016
After we finished our dinner ... the gang went out to the shop to work on the Volkswagon...
The plan was to put the transmission in ...
Craig was working on some electronics ... more like tearing it apart ...
while Nathan and Mike lifted the transmission into place ...
Craig helped out with tightening up the bolts ...
Ella also took a turn at using the wrenches ...
The decided to work with wood and create a new style of a walking stick ...
The kids love working out in the shop with grandpa ...!!!

Vintage Bartender ...

November 22, 2015
When the kids were here for Oma's birthday ...
Craig had remembered that grandpa had an old toy from his grandfather ...
of course grandpa had no idea where it was ... he told Craig to ask me ...
as usual ... I knew exactly where it was ...
I brought it into the kitchen ...
and when they were done with soaking in the hot tub ...
they all decided to have a look at it...
There definitely were a few issues with it ... the Bartender would light up ...
but that was it ...
they all tried everything to get it going ...
Grandpa told them he would have to take it to the shop and have a look at it ...
Mike was able to fix the Vintage Bartender ...
cleaning up the motor inside ...
soldering a few wires that had come apart ... glued the Martini shaker top back on ...
as well as the Martini glass on the stem ....
He then turned on the switch and lo and behold ...
the Bartender started to shake the Martini shaker ... pour it into the glass ...
raise up the Martini glass to his mouth and drink it up ...
it was too much for him ... it lit his face up to fire red and smoke blew out of his ears ...
It was so wonderful to see this little toy working again ...
I can still remember being in Grandpa Carpenters basement ...
over at the bar ...
when he would turn on the switch for this Bartender to do his thing ...
Loved it ... !!!!

Working on the Bug ...

November 15, 2015

There was a break in the weather ... warmer with the sun shining ...
Mike decided to do some work on the VW ...
finishing off the sandblasting ... priming ...
and putting a coat of paint on the "pan" ... the core frame of the VW ...
After Mike was finished with the painting ...
we carried the pan into the shop for the paint to dry ...
Ready for the next step of the project ... !!!
Mike was happy to have this part done ... so that the frame would be protected ...

A Refreshed Look for the House ...

October 28 - 30, 2015

Since the guys had finished with sealing the logs the day before ...
It was the perfect day for us to clean up a bit before the guys ...
came back to finish with the caulking ...
Mike and I had a beautiful day to work ... vacuuming the dust off the decks ...
we even managed to clean a few windows ...
using the scaffolding to make it easier ...
It was a nasty ... rainy ... wet ... day for the guys to be working ...
After they had cleaned up from finishing with the caulking using Log Jam ...
They were invited inside for a hot lunch ...
I decided to make a couple pizzas ... caesar salad ...
and a fresh apple pie ...
They really enjoyed having a few hot meals while working on the house ...
I was happy and thankful to receive a bottle of wine from them ...
that was so kind of them ... !!!
I waited for a sunny day to take these pictures of the house ...
We love the look of our new/old log house ... !!!

Log Work Being Done ...

October 21, 2015
We were pleased to hear from the crew of Ram Creek Log Homes ...
that they were going to start working on the logs ...
sanding ... grinding ... staining and sealing them ...
It was a beautiful sunny morning ... perfect weather to get this done ...
It was impressive how well these guys worked ...
finishing all the prep work ...
and spraying and brushing on two coats of stain ...
in one day ... !!!
The front of the house was the last to be done ...
It looks great ... !!!
Calling it a day to let the staining coat dry ...
returning the next day ...
to put on the seal coat ... !!!
Hoping this weather holds out ...
so the top part of the house will done as well ... !!!
