A New Track ...

It was a beautiful day to go cross country skiing ...

the only thing is finding my track ...

as it was buried from all the snowfall ...

I decided to make a new trail around the field ...

guesstimating ... a 1 km distance of old and new tracks combined ...

I was impressed with my calculations ... making the first loop ...

according to my FitBit app it showed that it was just over 1 km ...

Now that the first lap was completed ...

I went around a couple more times ... to pack down this track ...

It was quite the workout ... as skiing around I didn't stay in the same tracks ...

as is visible on the picture ...

those skies had their own path they wanted to follow ...

I had a great time out in the sunshine ...

Cross Country Skiing ...

The sun was threatening to appear today ... so I decided to go out cross country skiing ...

and take a few pictures with my new iPhone ... 

It will take practise with using the iPhone as my camera ...

I am enjoying how easy it is ...

Now I will only be carrying one camera ...

These photos were taken later in the afternoon ...

as the sun was setting ...

It was a beautiful sunset ...

 

Ski Day ...

It was another gorgeous day ...

perfect for getting out the cross-country skies ...

and head for the trails ... for a few hours of skiing ...

On our way back towards the house ...

I had seen a large snowshoe rabbit hop across the trail ...

of course ... I decided to stop and take a picture of the footprints ...

We had a great day ... !!!

 

Conditions Were Awesome ...

We took advantage of this beautiful day ...

to go back country skiing ... perhaps for the last time ...

 this season ...

The snow conditions were great ...

for this venture ...

We ended the gathering at the local ...

"Elk Horn Cafe" ...

where we enjoyed a wonderful meal ...

and 

conversation about our day ...

and planning our next outing ...

From Sun to Blizzard …

Another fabulous day skiing in the back country …

When I left the house the sun was shining …

when I arrived at our meeting place … we were in a blizzard …

we drove up to km 11 and were in the sunshine again …

It was a beautiful day for skiing … until the end of the day ….

then we were back in the blizzard … all the way home …

As we made our way down the mountain … almost to the 1 km mark …

we came upon the first couple that had left from the 11 km mark …

apparently he had moved over to let another truck pass by …

when his front tire was drawn into the deep snow bank …

trying to drive out of it …

his truck headed for the other side of the road and slid into the ditch …

they felt like they were floating in the deep snow …

and because of the angle it had gone in … it toppled over on its side …

Grateful that no one was injured …

The tow truck came and they were able to drive home …

Hope we do not have an ending like this again …

after a wonderful day of skiing  … !!!

Skiing and Super Bowl …

Heading to the hills … covered in fresh snow …

for a cross-country ski trek …

Our travels thru the snow …

Dinner prepared ahead of time … fresh bread … Moose stew …

 Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins with Chocolate icing …

and an assortment of snacks and appetizers were brought to the party …

The ski gang after dinner … enjoying the Super Bowl Game …

not too much excitement …

as the Seattle Seahawks dominated the Denver Broncos…

A good time was had … cheering and visiting … !!!

Using Peaches …

Trying out a new recipe to take to our apres ski dinner get together …

that I had seen on TV … "Bake with Anna Olson"

Raspberry Ricotta Buckle Recipe …

the base of the cake uses Ricotta cheese …

peaches were used instead of berries …

then covered with a streusel topping …

This cake was easy to whip up …

I will have to make it again … as there wasn't a piece left to take home …

it was a delicious dessert … !!!

Off Skiing Again …

 Another fabulous afternoon …

out on a cross-country ski trek …

this time we went up to almost the 12 km mark …

on Ha Ha Creek forestry road …

then ventured off the beaten track …

heading for Tees Lake …

It was a little tough going in spots … on the road …

trying to avoid the large truck tire tracks … 

a lot of dips and churned up snow … 

we decided to turn around and head back the same way …

as you can see …

we did not venture too far off the from whence we came … 

It was still great to be out …

enjoying the fresh air …!!!

First Outing With the Gang …

This was the first outing with part of the gang …
we try to go skiing … hiking … snow-shoeing …
every Sunday afternoon …

It was decided to up the Ha Ha Creek logging Road …
drove up to kilometre #6 …
then trekked our way up the road to the 11 km mark …
turning to our left and skiing on the trails …

Capturing some of Mother Nature's beauty …

Another beautiful day for a cross-country ski outing …

Stopping along the trails … taking in the view from the top of the ridge …

We left the house and travelled on along a path around the property …

crossing the highway at Ha Ha Creek …

skied thru the bush to the edge of the gravel pit … 

then turned around and made our way back …

turning to the right after we crossed the highway again …

and skiing along the ridge and back to the house …

It was another awesome day … !!!!

Out On The Ice …

Another day of activities down at the lake …
Ella doing her best with clearing the snow off the rink …
then we headed out skating around the lake … on a plowed track …
hoping to meet up with Grandpa and Craig on the other side …

A few of Nathan's friends came out with their children … to have some fun skating …

After skating around the lake on the groomed track …
I decided to try out my new touring skis …
so out I went … oh my goodness … it was great …
what a difference in having new equipment …
the trail around the lake was 1.5 km …
Felt wonderful … after my skating and skiing workout … !!!
