Always Something Going On ...

Ella helped in the kitchen for our breakfast this morning ...

She put out an arrangement of fruit ...

while I was making waffles ...

After breakfast ... Ella went for a long quad ride with Grandpa ...

the boys were riding the little quads and then Craig decided ...

to get the little trailer of Opa's ...

but there was an issue with the tire ...that needed to be dealt with first ...

 

Nathan had a look at the tire ...

he discovered that the bearings were seized up ...

so ... Craig helped out to get it fixed ...

 

After Ella and Grandpas long quad ride ...

she made her way down to the field ... to say hello to Whiskey and Juno ...

Ella had also husked a bag of corn on the cob ...

and fed the corn husks to the horses ... 

 

 

Ella and James came to help me gather some vegetables ...

for our special dinner ...

James was surprised how big the squash plants were ... and was excited to find the large squash ...

hanging on the trellis ...

 

They also picked some yellow zucchini and lots of carrots ...

Mason came down to the garden later ...

he had been busy riding the little quad ...

 

Once again I had my kitchen helper ...

cleaning up the carrots and munching on a few ...

  

 

A Little Squirrelly ...

This little squirrel had a busy morning ...

I just happened to look out the living room window ...

and found it scurrying around ... gathering fir cones to store for the winter ...

but ...

what I also saw ... was ... that it was heading to the truck ...

and climbing up underneath and storing them ... not exactly sure where ... !!!

When I informed Mike what was going on ...

he came and checked it out ...

Hoping the squirrel was scared away ...

so it will not continue to try and store the fir cones there ....

This squirrel ... and I am sure a few of his friends ...

were making quite a mess on the lawn ...

I wanted to cut the grass one last time for the year ...

but decided to rake up the fir cones first ...

Pulling out the rake and my wheelbarrow ...

working away raking ... and hauling the fir cones away.

I was grateful for the new lightweight wheelbarrow ...

compared to the old one ...

that at one time belonged to Gus and Margrit Haase ...

They had given it to mom and dad ...

when they had moved from the neighbourhood into town.

Another treasure from the past ...

that I am grateful to have in my yard now ... !!!

 

 

Cleaning Up ...

Today we spent the afternoon ...

cleaning up the lean-to and moving things into the storage shelter ...

Mike took some time to start Ian's quad to take it for a spin ...

he had a bit of trouble with it ...

but once it fired up ... he noticed that a pile of fir cones shot out of the tailpipe ...

looks like the squirrels were storing their food in there ...

The equipment stored and protected from the elements ...

The boat was backed in under the lean-to ...

where we have always wanted it to be stored ...

There is still lots of room to park the quads and in the winter months ...

it will be my SUV ...

We continued straightening things up ...

with trimming some of the branches on the surrounding trees ...

We have lots of fire starter to have a bon fire with the kids this coming weekend ...

It's been a while since I have seen this firewood cutting roller frame ...

that dad had built many years ago ...

He would put section of wood onto it ... and then push it forward ...

or either mom was there helping ...

to cut the logs to length for the wood stove ...

There are still a few items of dads ...

that are too precious to part with ...

 

The New Pick ...

When my cousin Klaus was here this summer ...

he had wondered why we did not have a loggers pick ...

to lift up the logs ... said it would save us from bending over and picking up the logs ...

Klaus was a forester in Austria...

We did the research online and found one ... The Oregon Log Lifting Pick ...

Our neighbourhood truck and saw guy ... ordered it for us.

It took abut 6 weeks to finally get it ...

we were excited to try it out ...

and found that it is a very handy tool to have ... !!!

Thank you Klaus ... !!!

It took us about 3 hours total ...

to cut up and stack ...

two truckloads of firewood ...

The picture of "Old Blue" was only ¾ loaded ...

We have one more row left to get ...

the next loads will be of pine wood ...

saving the hardwood for the colder weather ...

It was a beautiful fall day ...

to be out working on the firewood ...

 

Getting Ready ...

Klaus & Resi really wanted to see the wildlife in our field ...

I happened to get up very early ... and while everyone else was sleeping ...

there was a herd of bucks in the yard and field ...

plus ... one lone elk ... !!!

I was torn as to whether I should wake them up ...

I had enough time to grab my camera and take a few pictures ... !!!

Later that day ...

we went for a walk and checked the bluebird house ...

and found 4 eggs in the nest ...

 

We ended up going into town ...

to pick up some goggles ... helmets and Lounge Box ...

for the quad trip ...

It was the perfect day for us to have dinner with Oma and the gang ... !!!

Once we arrived home ...

it was time to install the new lounge box ...

on my quad ...

Everyone helping out ... !!!

We're almost ready for our wilderness adventure ...

still needed to load up the quads ...

tie them down ...

and pack up the rest of the gear ... !!!

Leaving early in the morning ...

heading into the mountains ... !!!

 

Windshield Time ...

Dagmar flew into Cranbrook to visit her family ...

and to keep me company ...

as we drove back to Kelowna ...

for me to pick up the industrial tools ...

that Mike had bought from Jim ...

What a fabulous road trip ... just the two of us ... !!!

We met up with Cindy ... a dear friend of Dagmar's ...

for a lovely luncheon ...

at the Dragonfly Cafe in Salmo ...

Then continued with our Windshield Time ...

chatting ... reminiscing ... laughing and singing ...

It was a beautiful day and great trip ...!!!

When we arrived at the house ...

Jim was so kind to load these gigantic tools ...

into the back of my Buick ...

and all before he cooked a delicious dinner for us ...

Later, as Dagmar and I were visiting in her craft room ...

she taught me how to use a new app ...

to create my posts for my blog ...

Oh my ... It is incredible and so easy ...!!!

Then ...

Dagmar showed me another app ... Waterlogue ...

WOW ....

It takes your photo and creates a beautiful watercolor picture ...

the picture she chose ... was ... of the rhubarb in my garden ...

I have enjoyed playing around with this app ...

and will be posting some of what I created ...!!!

Dagmar and I had a lovely morning ...

enjoying our morning cup of java ... and breakfast ...

still chatting non stop ... before I hit the road ... !!!

My journey home was very relaxing ...

just cruised along ...

with a couple of delays due to road construction ...

Took about 7 hours ... not bad ...

I still had time to stop at the Garden Centre to pick up a few plants ...!!!

When I arrived home ...

I contacted my neighbour to help me unload the car ...

to put the tools into the shop ...

Mike will be so excited to see them ... !!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

My New Toy ...

Spring is here and it is time to get the raised garden beds ready ...

I decided to get a little 2 Cycle Mini Tiller ...

to mix in the peat moss and compost into the soil ...

instead of hand bombing it ...

It was just the perfect size for me to handle ... 

light and easy to start ...

Amazing how quickly it went thru the beds ...

it only took 4 strips to complete the job ...

One bed completed ... look at that beautiful soil ...

 moving on to the other ones ...

they'll be done in no time ... 

O happy day ... !!!

Although it is still early to be planting anything ...

I am really itching to get started ...

it won't be long before my seedlings can be planted ...
