The grandchildren wanted pizza for lunch ...
perfect for after a morning of swimming ...
then dinner ...
was BBQ pork chops ... baked potatoes ... and veggies ...
a quick meal before heading into town ...
for Canada Day Celebrations ... !!!

With all the rain and now the sunshine ...

the vegetable growth has exploded ...

I swear they grow more overnight ... !!!

Toss The Kids ....

Fun with dad in the pool ...
the kids just love it when dad tosses them into the air ... 

Oma and Kurt came out for a visit ...
spending time with the family ...
Love getting a picture with the grandchildren ...
yes I am hidden in the back ...
pretty soon I will be the one in front of the kids ...
at the rate they are growing ...

The neighbour girls came down to go for a swim ... and play ...
the kids had a blast ...
All of them chilling out on the deck ...
enjoying a Freezie ...

Towels and bathing suits on the line ...
relaxing ... playing ... eating ....
has been a daily ritual ...
since the nice hot weather arrived ...!!!

That is what summer is all about ... !!!

Getting Wood ...

Since the kids were in work mode ...
figured I would get them to help me ...
 get wood for the boiler ...
after they were done ...
it was play time ... going for a quad ride with dad ...

 

Once the work was done ...

the boys decided to show Grandma how high they could climb ...

up on the tree in front of the house ...

and in the bush where we gathered wood ...

Work ... Then Play ...

June 24 & 26

The children were helping Grandma clean ...
Katie vacuumed thru the house ...
and even Nathan had a few jobs to do on my list ...

It was still cool on this morning ...
I was surprised when Craig found the sled  ...
and started sliding on the grassy hill ...
then I spotted the other two ...
sliding on the sand & gravel pile ...
who said you needed snow to have sliding fun ... ???

Warmed up in the afternoon ... the kids were bound and determined to jump in the pool ...
was just too frigid for me ... time to start up the boiler ....

After dinner activities ... a game of family badminton ...
with Ella keeping score on her little note pad ...
It was a busy ...  fun day ... !!!

Red & Green Veggies ...

Enjoying the produce from the garden ...
beets are already large enough to eat ...
boiled them up for dinner ...
and the kids devoured them ....

Two different varieties of Kale ...
ready to be picked ...
eating them in salads ... my green smoothie energy drinks ...
and making Kale chips ...
Tearing them into  bite size pieces ... drizzling them with Olive Oil ...
adding a little sea salt ... or seasoned salt ...
 baking in the oven at 350 degrees ...
for 10 - 15 minutes ... until the edges are crispy ...
Everyone enjoyed them ... including the kids ...
Yummy ... !!!

Finally A Sunny Day ...

June 23 & 24, 2013

The grandchildren were anxious to go swimming ...
I hadn't started the boiler yet ... to warm it up ...
it had been raining for too many days ...
they were determined to go in anyway ...
The pools temperature this day was 62 degrees F (16 degrees C)
Even Nixon wanted to test the water ...
I held him on the edge and let him dangle his feet  in the water ...
He was not happy when I took him out ...

This was the first tent we made ... on the back deck ... for the little ones to escape the sun ...

This was the second tent we made on the main deck ...
it was larger and had windows ...
enjoyed playing with the car  ...
and Ella was taking food orders ...
preparing them in her kitchen ...
I had to pretend that I would never be full ...
and she would continue to serve me whatever I wanted ...
I had some really delicious meals made for me ...

Hanging out on the stairs ...
checking out what Ella was watching on the iPad ...
Then Ella & Nixon were playing
 making music ...
drumming on the bucket ...
Ella using lego sticks and Nixon tapping with his hands ...
Musicians in the making ... !!!

Sandbox & Garden ...

Once again the rain had stopped ...
Nixon and Grandma were alone at home ...
so after he woke up from a nap ...
 we went out to play in the sandbox ...
with the trucks ... loader ... and bulldozer ...

Nixon came into the garden with me ...
to check it out ...
he was fascinated with the flowers ...
with all the rain we had ...
there was no need for watering ...
so we just enjoyed the garden ...

Even this young little lad knows ...
"To Stop And Smell The Flowers" ...
every now and again ... in our busy lives ... !!!

Just Having Fun ...

Do you want to wrestle ... ??? ... Before breakfast ... ???
The kids were having fun ... Nixon decided to join in ...
and put a head lock on Craig ...

Craig and James have been making paper airplanes ...
and flying them throughout the house ...
Craig went downstairs to work on another plane ...
we were surprised when he created a massive paper plane ...
It was time to launch it from the second floor ...
a successful flight ...
the kids had a blast ... !!!

before bath time ...
James sitting down with Nixon to read him a bedtime story ...
It was precious watching the two of them ... !!!

Birthday Boy ...

Bike Riding Venture ....

The rain had stopped ... so we decided to go for a walk ...
the kids took the old bikes and off we went ...
Craig was being silly riding the little ... little bike ...
could hardly fit those long legs under the handlebars ...

 

Katie and I took turns ... pushing Nixon in the stroller ... 

and pushing bikes back to the house ...

the kids had enough of riding ... our hills can be quite tiring ...

Katie had taken one bike up the driveway ... then came to get another one ...

calling the kids to come and see what she found on the road ...

all the kids gathered around to see what it was ...

it was a snake ... we were not sure if it was alive or not ...

the boys tried to move it with a stick ...

and it did not move ... then all of a sudden ...

Nixon walked over and picked it up by the tail ...

 and started swinging it around to show everyone ...

you can see the surprised look on his face ...

The snake was not alive ... so we put it into the bush ...

not sure what happened to it ...
