We ended the gathering at the local ...
"Elk Horn Cafe" ...
where we enjoyed a wonderful meal ...
and
conversation about our day ...
and planning our next outing ...

Wishing Katie and Vern a Happy Birthday ...

Cabin In The Woods ...

March 9, 2014
This was quite the adventure ...
out in the pouring rain ... hiking on the Pickering Hills ...
heading for a little cabin in the woods ...
all of us needing help crossing the raging creek to get there ...

Finally reaching our secret destination ...
and celebrating Barb's 60th birthday ...
we went on this venture to keep Barb busy and distracted ...
as her family was preparing a surprise party for her ...

Huddled under a tree to get out of the rain ... for a quick break ...
there was lots of water heading back down ...
as it warmed up and the ice and snow were melting ...
The picture of the road is actually someones driveway ...

More pictures from the gang ....

Map of our tracks ... to the cabin ...
then heading back for the Bull River Inn ...
before partying at Barb's place ...
We had a great time ... !!!

Water … Water … Everywhere …

March 9, 2014

Due to the warmer weather … and rain …
the runoff had begun …
Wardner was under watch for flooding …
sandbags were being filled …
water was covering roadways in the area …
people out digging trenches …
diverting the flow away from their homes …
and preventing their driveways from washing out …

I had spent a few days myself …
mopping and vacuuming up water from the basement …

Most of the snow has disappeared …
hoping the rain will hold off for awhile …
to let things dry up a bit …

because this is only the beginning of the big melt … !!!

Last of the Loop …

Leaving Hudson Hope …
crossing the Peace River … getting a picture of the Peace River Dam …
on our way to the next town …

Arriving in Chetwynd …
It was so neat to see all the carvings along
 the main streets …
lined up on the boulevards …
Amazed at the size of the lumber mill …
no wonder there are all these wonderful art pieces around …

Next stop … or should I say drive thru … due to the frigid weather …
was Dawson Creek …
drove to the town centre to take a picture of Mile "0"

Leaving Dawson Creek …
continuing on our way back to Fort St. John …
driving thru Taylor …
if you blinked your eyes … you could easily miss it …

It was a lovely … interesting trip … traveling in the truck …
thank goodness for the sunshine and blue sky …
and the heaters inside the truck …
Thank you Mike for taking me on this tour …!!!

Continuing On Our Travels …

Driving to Hudson Hope … small … small town … on our way up to the Bennett Dam …
Mike was kind enough to venture out in the frigid weather …
to take a couple pictures of the Dam …
This was at the Tourist Information place …
which was closed for the season …
apparently a must to go back and go thru the building ….

This is only a small display of the area …
Quite the view from the middle of the Dam …
we were able to drive across … turn around and head back …
stopping long enough to take these pictures from the truck …
We stopped in Hudson Hope in the only place for lunch …
restaurant and Pub …
a lot of history pictures of the pioneers … in there as well …
and chatting with a few of the local residents …
Grateful to have had a beautiful sunny day for our outing … !!!

A Close Call …

It was an interesting day … yesterday …
I had plowed all the snow away the day before …
that night it had rained … for hours …
I was to go into town for an appointment …
was a little hesitant … when I saw all the ice …
I called the neighbour next door …
and was told his wife left for work without any problems …
the main road had been grated and heavily sanded …
Well …was not a wise idea to head out …
we have a gentle slope in the driveway for the water to run off …
away from the house …
I backed out of the driveway … slowly … slightly turning …
and
that was all it took for the car to be sliding down the slope …
heading for the tree and ditch …
Grateful for the snow bank that was pushed there when I plowed …
Ended up salting and sanding the area … waited for the warm weather to melt it …
along with driving the tractor … scraping and hoping the chains would break it up …
I was able to drive out without any problems …

Upper driveway and parking by the shop …

driveway in front of house … downhill … to the lower part …

My Buick is now parked at the bottom of the hill beside the garage …
on the flatland …
Thankful … I was ok and no damage done to the SUV …
