It's Still Winter ...

Here In The Valley
A beautiful sight to wake up to ...
another winter storm ...
hits the area ...

Hard to believe that just yesterday ...
this was all cleared and bare ...
my job was to shovel the deck ...
and toss the snow over the railings ...
so Mike could clear it away ...
with the tractor ...

Mike started ploughing the driveway ...
around 10:00 in the morning ...
it was still snowing at that time ...
then ventured down to moms ...
to clear her area as well ...
thank goodness the snow had stopped falling ...
He then was back here around 3:30pm ...
to finish moving the snow at our place ...
took him a couple more hours ...
before he came in and called it a day ...

A beer was first on his list of refreshments ...
having dinner and watching ...
the UFC fights ...

A well deserved evening of relaxing ... !!!!

I called her to thank her for the card ...
and I loved hearing her giggle ...
apparently she had worked really hard on this ...
(mommy told me ...)

Oh the joys of being grandparents ...
to receive little treasures like this ... !!!

Caught ... Red Handed ...

Playing In The Shop
Well ... looky here ...

We bought this bought this computer in Dec. 1986 ...
oh my goodness ...
we were going to take it to the recycle depot ...
Mike decided to see if it still worked ...
after all these years of being boxed up and in storage ...
he was delighted ...
and now when he goes out to the shop ...
and he needs a break ...
you can find him playing golf ...
on the old Apple IIGS ...
just too funny ... !!!!

Mike actually does work out ...
in his shop ...
here he installed the old central vacuum cleaner ...
from the house ...
and also fabricated vacuum hose attachments ...
to the table and cut-off saw ...
for the Shop Vac ...
to remove all the sawdust ...

Great work there Mike ... !!!!

Still Winter ...

Up On Our Mountain
With the little bit of snow that fell ...
Mike spent the day clearing the roads ...
and using the snowblower ...
to clean off the ice rink ...

I decided to put on my skates ...
to help with cleaning the rink ...
so that we could give it a good flood tonight ...
ended up skating a few laps ...
headphones on ...
listening to my music ...
practising my pieces for choir ...
was great to be outdoors ...
and enjoy the little bit of sunshine we had ...

Indoor Gardening ...

Little Sprouts

This picture was taken on Feb. 15th ...
the little plastic domes ...
were ready to be removed ...
as the seeds have sprouted ...
and the little plants ...
needing the room to grow ...

These pictures were taken yesterday ...
Feb. 18th ...
it's amazing how quickly they grew ...
I needed to remove the smaller ...
Cherry Tomatoe plants ...
and leave the best one to continue growing ...
in a few more days ...
I will be able to pick some fresh baby greens ...
for a salad ...

Love my little gardens ... !!!

Travelling Thru ...

Longview, Alberta

Driving down the backroads ...
east of Longview ...
saw a few Bald Eagles ...
was able to capture this one sitting in the tree ...

As we continued on our way ...
this beautiful building caught our eyes ...

We had to stop and take a few pictures ...
absolutely amazing ... !!!

Longview Hall gets an artistic facelift

Longview residents and visitors will now be seeing more of the village's history.
The Longview Community hall is now the home of a multi-wall mural on the exterior of the building that will tell the history of the site.
Local artist Matts Zoumer , assisted by Dakoda Merkley, a Longview resident and Alberta College of Art and Design student worked on the mural.  They couldn't stand seeing a bare wall so they thought a mural was a good idea.
Some mock sketches were drawn up, presented and it went over well. They started on the project.

This is not the first mural Zoumer has done. He's done other murals in Longview, some in Okotoks and in Calgary, including with the Calgary Stampede. He does work for them painting scenes on windows for the iconic event.
After this project,  work began on a mural for the River Roadhouse in High River.

Some of the murals range from 50-feet high to 200 feet and he loves doing them.

Zoumer is also an accomplished cartoonist who has published books of his collections and also does chainsaw sculpture.

For this project he researched the history of the site and talked to locals about the area.
The site has been around since the 1920s but it's gone through a number of changes in that time. It started as a pigpen.
One of the walls will chronicle activities that have happened at the hall, such as some of Ian Tyson's legendary concerts and another side will celebrate the agricultural activities that happened on the site.

The third side will be a landscape painting of the view from the hall.
It was mostly a farming community. No cowboys or ranching here.
When the mural was finished,  60 brands of local families were painted around the edges.

"Everybody is really enjoying it," Matt Zoumer said. "It's quite personal for the people who have the brands here. It will be a nice window into history."

Hope to stop in a check out the inside of the Hall ...
one day when we travel to High River, AB.

Happy Birthday Mike ... !!!!
