Sprouts are Up …

Started my Herb garden on Feb. 5 …

sprouts were up in 4 - 5 days … this kit has …

two types of Basil … mint … dill … parsley … chives and cilantro …

It is wonderful to see fresh herbs growing in your home …

It won't be long now …  before I start my seeds for the garden …

using the seed starter kit from AeroGarden …

Bringing The Appetizer …

My choice for the Sunday get-together …

was to bring an appetizer …

wanting to use up the ingredients in the fridge … and make something different …

decided to bake a Focaccia Bread …

timed it … that it was still hot by the time …

I arrived at my destination …

It didn't take long for it to be devoured … I must say … it was tasty … !!!

Competition at Joseph Creek Village …

Participating in the Olympic spirit …

the games were on at Joseph Creek … in both facilities …

1st week was Hockey … had to put country flags together …

Ski jumping … was a bean bag throw with a display of mountains in the background …

then

Skating … was using the dart board …

Oma winning Gold in hockey and a Bronze medal in Skating …

The 2nd week held 3 more events …

Curling … playing on the Shuffle Board …

X-country skiing … carrying an ice-cube on a popsicle stick thru an outlined course …

and

Speed Skating … throwing Styrofoam balls into bucket …

Oma received a Silver medal for Curling …

a Gold medal in X-country skiing ..

and 

a Gold medal in Speed Skating …

everyone also received a chocolate rose as their flowers …

They all had so much fun … a lot of laughter could be heard throughout the building …

As you can see … 

Oma was thrilled to be the Overall Best Athlete … for most medals won …

from both facilities that participated …

and will be displaying her Trophy proudly … :-)

Joseph Creek Village … took pride in the Olympics  …

with the flame … all the medals … flowers …and  a victory cake …

Many of the residents watched the Olympics Sochi 2014 on TV …

then getting together discussing the outcome of the days events …

Snow And More Snow …

I had just finished … around 3:30 in the afternoon …clearing all the snow … 

that had fallen for 2 days … 

It even meant I had to use the bucket … to push the piles over …

and haul some away …

as the driveway was closing in …

THEN … at 4:00 the snow had started to fall again …

by 10:00pm  there was already close to 4 inches of snow …

and I had to shovel a path down to the boiler …

I was hoping it would stop … but it continued thru the night …

with another 2 inches of snow … !!!

Finally it had stopped … shovelled a path to the shop …

 now my job today is to get on the tractor and clear it all once again …

It would be nice to have a couple days to do something else for a change …

like … skiing … !!!

From Sun to Blizzard …

Another fabulous day skiing in the back country …

When I left the house the sun was shining …

when I arrived at our meeting place … we were in a blizzard …

we drove up to km 11 and were in the sunshine again …

It was a beautiful day for skiing … until the end of the day ….

then we were back in the blizzard … all the way home …

As we made our way down the mountain … almost to the 1 km mark …

we came upon the first couple that had left from the 11 km mark …

apparently he had moved over to let another truck pass by …

when his front tire was drawn into the deep snow bank …

trying to drive out of it …

his truck headed for the other side of the road and slid into the ditch …

they felt like they were floating in the deep snow …

and because of the angle it had gone in … it toppled over on its side …

Grateful that no one was injured …

The tow truck came and they were able to drive home …

Hope we do not have an ending like this again …

after a wonderful day of skiing  … !!!

Exciting News …

Oh what a happy day for James … getting a new bike … 

I was informed that his old one had fallen apart …

this one should last for quite a few years …

I love it James …

It was great to talk to everyone on Saturday on FaceTime …

I was surprised and thrilled …

when Ella wanted to read to me …

so away she went to her room … to get a few books … a lot of books actually …

to read to Grandma …

I loved it … she would read and then show me the pictures …

she did very well with her reading …

There will be no stopping her now … she enjoys her books … !!!

It was a chilly …  -24 degree day …

Ian had asked Mike to please start up his sled …

every once in awhile to keep it in good shape …

Mike was only able to make a couple of loops around the house …

it was just too cold … of course he was not dressed for the elements …

Mike still enjoyed riding around …

and another job was completed on the list …

for a cross-country ski trek …

Our travels thru the snow …

Dinner prepared ahead of time … fresh bread … Moose stew …

and an assortment of snacks and appetizers were brought to the party …

The ski gang after dinner … enjoying the Super Bowl Game …

not too much excitement …

as the Seattle Seahawks dominated the Denver Broncos…

A good time was had … cheering and visiting … !!!

Raspberry Ricotta Buckle Recipe …

the base of the cake uses Ricotta cheese …

peaches were used instead of berries …

then covered with a streusel topping …

This cake was easy to whip up …

I will have to make it again … as there wasn't a piece left to take home …

it was a delicious dessert … !!!

Yeah … Blue Skies …

What a wonderful sight to see the sun on the mountains …

and clear blue skies …

after a few weeks of being in the fog …

having a feeling it won't last long …

as the clouds creep up the mountains …

The clouds moved in the next night …

then waking up to almost 6 inches of snow on January 29 …

Thank goodness Mike was coming home the next day …

his first job on the honey-do list …

to help with clearing all the snow …
