A Beautiful Day ...

October 24, 2015

We decided to take the day off ... go for a picnic ...

up to the Cherry Lake area ... to visit with friends ...

It was a beautiful day ... stopping to take this picture on the Bailey Bridge ...

of Lake Koocanusa and the mountains ...

Sitting around the campfire ...

eating our lunch ... Mike decide he wanted to cook a smokie ...

instead of the having a sandwich ...

The guys came back from hunting this morning ...

bringing a couple grouse for the spaghetti dinner ...

We were delighted with an invitation to stay for dinner ...

of course we accepted ... !!!

The guys enjoying a visit while Rocko was preparing his famous sauce ...

Denise and I decided to go for a walk ...

checking out some of the pools of water in the creek ...

Always amazed at how crystal clear the water is ...

Enjoying a delicious dinner by the campfire ...

listening to the stories ... having lots of fun and laughter ...

Later a birthday was brought out to celebrate Sandie's birthday ...

a rich triple chocolate cake ...!!!

So happy to have spent the day and evening with our friends ...

this was the last day of camping for the group ...

They will be packing everything up the next day and heading home ... !!!

We couldn't have asked for a better way to end their camping season ...

 

Work & Break-time ...

The crew have been working really hard ... cleaning up the logs and the wood ...

in the cool ... damp weather ...

They were invited to join us for lunches ...

coming indoors to warm up ...

First day was Potatoe Leek Soup ... and cinnamon buns ...

next was Chili with Skillet Cornmeal bread ...

Then the following day was Homemade Chicken soup with dumplings ...

and baked goodies ...

With all the fresh vegetables from the garden ...

I decided to make a pot of Borsht ...

fresh cabbage ... carrots ... onions ... garlic and beets ...

and fresh baked biscuits ...

Today was leftovers ...

chili ... chicken soup and BBQ moose Brats ... (thank you Nathan for sharing them with us)

then a Fresh Peach Crisp for dessert ...

I love spending time in the kitchen ...

making and baking all sorts of dishes ... !!!

 

A Vacation with Mom ...

We took a camping trip to the West Kootenays with mom in 2001 ...

making our way to Halcyon Hot Springs ...

It was beautiful ... enjoying every moment ... visiting many of the little towns ...

along the way ... !!!

This was one of our wonderful memories ...

October 21, 2015

Today was the day to finish gathering the rest of the produce ...

before we were hit with a hard frost ...

The Tomatillo plants were still thriving well under the cover ...

but ... it was time to bring the fruit indoors ...

Another batch of Tomatillo salsa will be made within the next few days ...

So impressed with the growth of my garden ...

and it's hard to believe it's near the end of October ... !!!

 

Log Work Being Done ...

We were pleased to hear from the crew of Ram Creek Log Homes ...

that they were going to start working on the logs ...

sanding ... grinding ... staining and sealing them ...

It was a beautiful sunny morning ... perfect weather to get this done ...

It was impressive how well these guys worked ...

finishing all the prep work ...

and spraying and brushing on two coats of stain ...

in one day ... !!!

The front of the house was the last to be done ...

It looks great ... !!!

Calling it a day to let the staining coat dry ...

returning the next day ...

to put on the seal coat ... !!!

Hoping this weather holds out ...

so the top part of the house will done as well ... !!!

 

Oh So Close ...

It was a good day to go get another load of firewood ...

We still needed another load to hopefully fill the woodshed up ...

Finished splitting another load ...

now it was time to load it into "Old Blue" ...

When we finished unloading this truck full ...

it wasn't quite enough to fill it ... !!!

We would probably need another half a load of firewood to complete it ...

Oh well ... that was enough work for this day ...

it was time to take it easy ...

with a soak in the hot tub ... !!!

 

 

After The Surprise Party ...

I spent the morning ... baking and straightening up ...

before we went into town for the surprise birthday party ...

Finishing up with the preparations for dinner ...

in time for our guests to arrive ...

Our neighbours, Eric and Sharon were invited for dinner ...

to reciprocate an evening out with them a while back ...

Oma and Joe were also invited ...

for another Halibut fish fry dinner with all the fixings ...

It was a beautiful, although cool evening for cooking outside ...

but ... it was so worth it ... !!!

We had a great time visiting ... and it was so nice that the 3 guys ...

had lots in common on the work front ...

 

 

A Birthday Surprise ...

It was quite the surprise ...

when Rose came into the coffee room at Joseph Creek ...

to see her friends sitting at a table ... waiting for her to arrive ...

to celebrate her 80th Birthday ... !!!

Mom decided to have a group get together ... to enjoy the celebration ...

An ice-cream cake was served and devoured by everyone ...

No chance for the cake to melt ... !!!

Mom was waiting for Mike to arrive ... so that he could blow up a few balloons ...

there wasn't anyone around with enough wind to do the task ... !!!

Happy that Burk sent these photos ...

so that they could be posted as well ...

Rose and her family were so happy that everyone ...

came to help celebrate her special birthday ... !!!

It was a lovely afternoon ...

 

Remembering Dad ...

Twenty years ago today ...

Mike's father passed away ...

It was heart warming going thru some of the pictures ...

of happy times captured ...

Even though so much time has passed ...

he is always in our thoughts ... sending our love ... !!!

More Firewood ...

A cool rainy evening ...

decided to make a turkey pie ... to use up the rest of the Thanksgiving Turkey ...

Perfect dinner to watch the Blue Jays ball game ...

The house was a little chilly ...

so while we were watching the ball game ...

I decided to gather up the materials that were needed ...

to whip up a pair of crochet slippers to warm my feet ...

It's that time of year ... having the cooler nights ... !!!

It was a beautiful day ...

to cut up another load of firewood ...

to fill the woodshed ...

Mike was bucking up the logs ... while I was using the wood splitter ...

and tossing the firewood in the truck ...

Mike ended up helping with the wood splitting and loading ...

once he was finished cutting up the logs ...

together we took the load down to the woodshed ...

and stacked this load ...

After the first truckload was unloaded ...

we went back to get another one ...

I took a wheelbarrow full of smaller pieces down to the house ...

to warm up the basement ...

starting a fire in the wood stove ...

Soon another load of firewood was stacked in the woodshed ...

One more day is needed to fill it up to the top ... !!!

Another good days work out in the sunshine ...

soaking up the warmth ...

 

 

So Many Memories ...

Dad loved playing music and singing ...

I also enjoyed many moments singing with dad ...

Performing at the Studio Stage Door and volunteering our time at the door ...

Many hours were spent working ... down at the Mayook Schoolhouse ...

or at our home ... helping the boys out with their trucks ...

Dad's specialty ... Auto Body Remove & Repair ...

Always willing to lend a hand at whatever project we were doing ...

as well as tinkering around their house ...

Of course their was always time to socialize after the work was done ... !!!

Good times were had wherever we went ...

Always in our thoughts especially this day and everyday ...!!!

Memories held dear in our hearts ... !!!

Another Job Done ...

Mike had finished with winterizing the travel trailer ...

and now it was time to put it ...

into its resting place for the winter ...

With his guidance ... I backed it up into parking area ...

Next it was time to cover up some of the sharp areas ...

with foam backing ...

to protect the cover for the trailer ...

Mike was still on the roof ...

unfolding the cover and letting the sides down ... to cover it ...

we then adjusted the cover ...

then gathered and fastened all the tie-downs ... under and around the trailer ...

to secure it.

This was one of the jobs to get done before the snow falls ... !!!
