From Garden To Shop ...

September 16, 2016
The day after we returned from our fishing trip ...
Mike spent part of his morning...
picking plums and apples ...
while I headed into town for appointments and groceries ...
It was my turn in the garden ... to pick tomatoes ... cucumbers ... lettuce and zucchini ...
before leaving for Alberta ... to spend the weekend with the grandchildren ...

Mike decided to flip the axles to add a lift to the travel trailer ...
as it was too low to the ground ...
It would often scrape the bumps ...
He jacked up the trailer and put the supports underneath ... then removed the tires ....
Mike then removed the axels ...
using our trusty tractor ... he was able to move them onto the sawhorses ...
and welded the support brackets ...
on the top of the axles ...
The axles were then installed ...
under the springs ...
then the u bolts and plates installed ...
The electric brakes were reconnected ... the tires were then put back on ...
The job completed and now the trailer has better clearance ...
We're ready to roll ... !!!

Fresh From My Garden ...

June 11, 2016
It was great to see how much the garden had grown while we were on holiday ...
Mike had his hands full ... thinning the apples ... there were so many of them ...
needed to get them to a good spacing to grow big apples ...
Another sweet potato clipping was ready to be planted ...
We'll see how they will produce ...
Love seeing the growth of the potato plant in the potato boxes ...

Blossoms & Bluebirds ...

April 19, 2016

The first sighting of the Rocky Mountain Bluebird was on March 26, 2016

May 1, 2016
Spring with the plum and apple blossoms in full bloom ...
Beginning of May ... so many blossoms on the strawberry plants ...
The potatoes have also sprouted in the potatoe boxes ...
The weather had been so warm that I took a chance ...
on planting the corn ... hoping there would be no frost ...
within in the next few weeks ...
Rhubarb is growing very well ... ready to be picked for fresh pies and compote to be made ...
The garlic which was planted in the fall ... continues to grow ...
Broccoli ... cauliflower and kale seedlings were also planted ...
The marigolds were planted throughout the garden ...
for insect control ...
and to add some color amongst the green ...!!!

Spring Clean-Up ...

April 10, 2016

It was so delightful to see the little bushes ...
blooming this year ...
Mike had spent a couple days ... aerating and thatching the back and front lawn ...
then it was my turn to rake and haul the dead grass away ...
The tractor was a big help to do this job ...

April 14, 2016
It was an overcast day ... so I ventured into the garden ...
to plant the onions ... and work on the strawberry bed ...
hand tilling in some fresh soil mix ...
and placing the berry barrier around each plant ...
to prevent the berries from touching the earth ....
Mike also pruned this apple tree ... as the buds were already starting to bloom ...
The other apple tree still needed a few more days ...
before it would be ready to prune ...

Cleaning Up The Yard ...

March 28, 2016

It was the perfect day to gather up all the branches ... trees ... sticks ...
and haul them to the slash pile ...
out to the field ...
The kids ended up playing in the play centre ...
after they were done helping out ...
and watching grandpa haul the trees away ...
Once all the slash was gathered ...
the kids felt it was time to haul the VW body ...
down to the shop ...
as Grandpa will be ready fix it up to put on the VW frame ...
tires are almost ready to be mounted ...
Our neighbour came up to the house ...
then out to the garden ...
to show Mike how to prune the plum tree ...
Nathan was really interested in it as well ...
It was still a little early to have the apple trees pruned ...
Chris figured we should give it another couple weeks ...
then he will help us out again ...
pruning the trees ...

Apples and Plums Galore ...

September 13, 2015
It was a sunny day ...
perfect for going to the garden and picking the ripened fruit ...
off the trees ...
So many large apples ... so impressed with what these trees produce ...
The Mount Royal Plum Tree ...
was full of plums ...
I could not believe how hidden they were in the tree ...
That little tree produced 30 lbs of plums ...
both the apple and the plum trees were planted 3 years ago ...
Boy ... do I have my work cut out for me now ... !!!
Only a few were eaten ... to avoid getting a tummy ache ...
They are so delicious ... !!!
